Blue geometric glitter nails

These blue geometric glitter nails were inspired by a manicure I saw by Paulina of Paulina’s Passions. I saw it and thought I’d love to create something similar but using blue – but I don’t like my manicure half as much as I like hers.

I think it’s probably because the glitter is more prominent on my manicure. And that makes it a bit distracting. I feel it needs some more solid colour.

The blue polishes I used are Morgan Taylor Flirt In A Skating Skirt (the darker blue) and OPI The I’s Have It. The very pedantic part of my nature – which represents about 99.99% of my being – is particularly annoyed that OPI has put an apostrophe in the name. It’s a plural, so doesn’t need one <stamps feet>.

The glitter is a gel polish; W7 Silver Sparks. I created the patterned nails over the top of the glitter using the reverse stamping method. I used Bundle Monster BM-XL218, from the Bundle Monster Blogger Collaboration Set 4. This particular plate is by nails.by.teens.

I stamped using Essence Stamp Me! in White, then filled in the reverse of the image using the two blue polishes.

It’s lovely to be back doing my nails so frequently again. I had about a year out, during which time I only really had plain colours on my nails. I had a busy year with some volunteering I’ve been doing, and realise it has taken me away from the hobby I love so much. So, I shall be scaling that back in favour of the nails as soon as I can 🙂

For this manicure I’ve used:
  • Dark blue: two coats of Morgan Taylor Flirt In A Skating Skirt
  • Lighter blue: OPI The I’s Have It
  • Glitter: three coats of W7 Silver Sparks (gel polish)
  • Gel top coat: W7 2 in 1 top coat / base coat (gel polish)
  • Stamping polish: Essence Stamp Me! White
  • Stamping plate: Bundle Monster BM-XL218
  • Top coat:  Sally Hansen Insta-Dri

Peach Roses | 40 Great Nail Art Ideas

I’m a little late in posting these peach roses as it has been back to school for my son this week, and that has meant I’ve been running around with lots to do to get him sorted and ready. These nails are for the 40 Great Nail Art Ideas group, where the colour prompt was peach or lemon. My own theme was roses.

I’ve done quite a few yellow manicures recently, so I chose to go with the peach and did some reverse stamping.

The base is Beauty UK Peach Melba. It took three coats as it was hot and humid when I painted my nails and they got some small air bubbles in the first coat, so I chose to go over them a little more to hide the bubbles.

The stamping polish is one I picked up in France recently while I was on holiday. We were visiting a “night market” in Surgères when I came across a stall full of stamping supplies. The brand is Ongle Amor, and I think it’s some sort of franchise as there seem to be lots of outlets selling their polish and plates online and at fairs and markets around France.

There was a good range of stamping plates, with lots of different designs, but I didn’t buy any as they weren’t backed.  Stamping polish was another matter though. They were demonstrating stamping to some young girls and the polish looked good, so I bought five bottles for €20 (about £17). I have used “Color 74” Rose Baby here and an image from Born Pretty Store BP-73. The roses are filled in with Rimmel Sun Downer, an orangey-red.

Since the colour differences are only slight, I mattified the manicure to allow my camera to pick up as much detail as possible.

Coral Reef Nails | 40 Great Nail Art Ideas

These coral reef nails are for the 40 Great Nail Art Ideas group, whose prompt this week is “Things In The Water”.

I decided to use some images from the Bundle Monster Sun Kissed stamping plate collection to create an underwater scene.

Firstly, I painted the gradient background using Barry M Cotton, Barry M Sugar Apple and Barry M Turquoise.

Then I added various coral reef images. On each nail I stamped a spindly coral using Barry M Almond. Because this isn’t a stamping polish, it’s great for use in the background like this.

Then I added some more coral, using Mundo de Uñas 13 Orange, 42 Holland Blue and Barry M Blood Orange (the red on the index finger) and Barry M Cocoa (medium brown).

I made a couple of decal fish: a clown fish and an angel fish (well, it’s a Moorish Idol to be precise) and also stamped some other shoals of fish on.

I also added an orange crab but really didn’t like it. It seemed a little comical. Plus, little crabby felt like he’d be more at home at the seaside than crawling around a tropical coral reef. So I was delighted to discover that it came off in one go with my lint roller without disturbing any of the other stamping. Complete result.

Multicoloured Floral Nails | Hippie Flower Power Nails | 40 Great Nail Art Ideas

These multicoloured floral nails, reminiscent of “flower power”are for the festivals / hippie travels prompt for the 40 Great Nail Art Ideas group.

I wasn’t sure at first what direction to take with this prompt. Admittedly, I was born in the year the term “hippie” became widespread, the year of the Human Be-In and the Summer of Love, but I’m not a festival-goer, and so have no first-hand experience to draw inspiration from.

I’ve done tie-dye nails before, so didn’t want to go that route. Then I thought about stamping some hippie-type images, but I couldn’t find any in my plate collection. (There’s a brilliant Bundle Monster Festival set – plates BM-S301 to BM-320. It has tons of festival and hippie themed images … but I don’t own it!)

So, ultimately, I chose to represent the idea of “flower power” and did some stamping decals.

I chose the brightest, most outlandish nail polish I think I own for the base. It’s L’Oréal Exotic Canaries. I’ve never used this before, even though I bought it about three years ago, but it would be fantastic for a summer holiday. It’s bright and bold, and quite a warm yellow colour. I had to paint four coats to feel happy enough with the opacity, but anyone with shorter nails wouldn’t have to paint so many. I just don’t like to see the free edge through the polish.

I coloured in the flowers with a number of L’Oréal polishes: Sky Fits Heaven (blue), Innocent Green (teal green), Atomic Purple, Exquisite Scarlet (red), Ingenuous Rose (light pink), Shocking Pink (bright pink), Lush Tangerine (orange) and Flashing Lilac (pinky-magenta).

The finished look really reminds me of a much-loved pinafore I wore in the early 70s. The yellow is spot on, and it was adorned with multi-coloured appliquéd flowers very much like these.

We’re in the home stretch now of this year-long challenge – just a few weeks to go. Oh, and I finally caught up!

Nautical Nails | Bundle Monster Hangloose Collection

These nautical nails are for the 40 Great Nail Art Ideas group. The theme this week is holidays or seaside or the beach and I’ve done a nautical take on the prompt. My husband hankers after a sailing holiday, and would love to sail around the Caribbean, but I prefer to keep that to the nails only.

I made some reverse stamping decals using some images from the new Bundle Monster Hangloose plates collection. This collection is 10 square plates with a lovely range of ocean and beach images. It has seas, the ocean floor and its creatures, shells and scallops, sailor and nautical themed images, as well as tropical beach, holiday (vacation) and surfing images.

I used plates BM-401 and BM-402 and coloured them in with a range of blue, red and white polishes (see below for the details). I mattified the final look as it showed up better on camera.

You can buy the Hangloose plates singly for $2.99 each, or as a set of 10, currently on sale for $12.74.

There are also a couple of sets that they come in that seem a great buy. For $33.15 you can buy one of two sets. Each has three stamping polishes, the set of 10 Hangloose plates, 4 sheets of similarly-themed water decals and a wheel of gold studs that includes shells, seahorses, starfish and pineapples. You can choose either the set that has 3 metallic stamping polishes in Sky Blue, Gold and Silver or the set with 3 Moonbeams stamping polishes in Pinky Red, Purplish Blue and a Greenish Gold. These are metallic stamping polishes that look great over darker colours.

I don’t have either of the stamping polish sets, but I do have the decals and the studs, and think the sets would make a great gift – either for someone else, or for yourself.
