Neon brights stamping marble smoosh

It’s been a while since I’ve done much nail art. My nails have only really had plain nail polish on them for a lot of the time over the past year or so, as I’ve been so busy with work and my volunteering commitments.

So, this stamping marble using some neon brights from the Morgan Taylor Selfie collection was quite a welcome change.

I’m a little sad that my camera hasn’t done well with these colours. They’re bright neons and my camera just hasn’t done justice to this manicure. It looked awesome in the flesh; on the screen, not so much.

I used five of the six polishes in the Morgan Tayor Selfie collection. I only have five of them, as I’m missing Pretty As A Pink-ture. I am often amazed how well polish manufacturers put collections togehter. It’s when you use all (or nearly all) of the colours in a collection that you realise how well they complement each other.

So, the colours are:

  • All About The Pout – a pale neon coral creme
  • Me, Myself-ie, And I – a deeper neon coral creme
  • Woke Up This Way – a neon magenta creme
  • Best Face Forward – an inky purple with cyan blue and pinky-purple flakies (not neon)
  • No Filter Needed – cyan blue creme (not neon)

I put drops of polish onto a mat, then picked up the colour with a stamper, dragging it a little to swirl the colours, and stamped the colour onto my nails. The technique is a fun and quick way to crate some nail art. It’s variously called a smoosh or a stamping marble.

As I said, my camera doesn’t pick up neon very well, so I photographed my hand in front of a gel nails LED light, which goes some way to showing off the brightness of these colours.

Morgan Taylor Best Face Forward

This beauty is Morgan Taylor Best Face Forward.

It’s from the Selfie collection, a collection of six fun, bright summer shades.

Best Face Forward is alone in the collection as the only flakie polish. It’s a purple – that sometimes looks inky blue – with cyan blue and pinky-purple flakies in it.

I couldn’t quite capture the sparkle of the flakies in the photo, and in truth, they are best visible in fluorescent light (or perhaps sunlight – but that’s now gone in my part of the UK!)

There’s a bit of tip wear visible, but that’s because this is day four of wearing this polish, and I’ve done some hard core cleaning in these nails over that time! Morgan Taylor polishes are probably my favourite for wear length. They rarely chip and they last ages on me.

My nails are a different shape these days. I broke the middle nail while I was away on holiday, and I decided to shorten them all to match. I wasn’t entirely ready to return to my squared shape, and they’re not long enough to be almond again, so I’ve compromised with rounded nails. I’m not overly happy with this shape on me. But they’ll grow in no time, so I shall just have to put up with it for a bit. I have to say, I forgot how easy it was to type without excessively long nails. People still think my current nails are long, but they feel so short to me.

Here’s a journey through my nail shape in Morgan Taylor polishes. Which shape do you prefer?

I always like the behind the scenes videos that Morgan Taylor puts together – here’s the one for the Selfie advert.

Morgan Taylor The Great Ice-Scape Collection

I have the whole Morgan Taylor The Great Ice-Scape collection to show you today.

It comprises six polishes for Winter 2016. There are two blues, a nude, a mauve, a pink and a copper shimmer. They are such gorgeous colours. As ever, I have been surprised by a couple of Morgan Taylor polishes. The ones I thought I might not like, I have absolutely adored.

The collection is themed around ice-skating. Here are the shades:

  • Figure 8s & Heartbreaks – a dusky mauve creme
  • Flirt In a Skating Skirt – a steel blue creme
  • Hey, Twirl-Friend – a nude creme
  • Ice Queen Anyone? – a copper shimmer
  • Lace ‘Em Up – a midnight blue creme
  • N-ice Girls Rule – a pale pink shimmer

Each of my swatches is two coats plus top coat. Every single one of these painted on perfectly and lasted really well. I am truly so impressed with Morgan Taylor polishes.

Figure 8s & Heartbreaks

This colour is absolutely stunning. It’s a dusky mauve – precisely the kind of tone that I like. It’s so gorgeous on, and I had so many people ask me what it was called when I wore it. This one is definitely my favourite of the collection.

Flirt In a Skating Skirt

This is another dusky colour, and again one that I think is perfect for me. It’s a steel blue. It is darker than in the bottle – lots of shades are as the the thickness of the glass bottle makes them appear lighter.

Hey, Twirl-Friend

This is a nude polish. It has a hint of beige or mushroom about it. It’s a great colour for work, and complements the steel grey especially well. I can see me using these two together for nail art. I used two thicker coats for this swatch. If you paint your polish on thinly, you may need to use three.

Ice Queen Anyone?

This copper shimmer is the one polish in the collection that I thought I wouldn’t like. And I was wrong. It has a lovely sparkle to it under lights (or perhaps out in the sun – not that I can try that in the UK in the mid-winter though!) The photos seem to really show up the line in my nail where the free edge starts. I usually get this when my hands/nails are quite dry, so perhaps I didn’t moisturise well when I took these. I know metallic and shimmery polishes like this can often show up the flaws in your nails, but I don’t recall that showing up while I was wearing the polish.

Lace ‘Em Up

Lace ‘Em Up is a deep navy, a midnight blue. It’s another gorgeous polish, and one that I’ve already re-worn since swatching it.

N-ice Girls Rule

This is another from the collection that I looked at at first and thought, no, not for me. I thought it was too girly, too pretty, too fragile for me. But I love this pale pink shimmer. It’s an absolute winner.

Morgan Taylor Oh, Para-chute! | Sweetheart Squadron Collection

Morgan Taylor Oh, Para-chute! is the final polish from the Sweetheart Squadron Collection for autumn.

It is described by Morgan Taylor as a sage green creme. It is a dusky, almost “dirty” green. I’m never keen on green nail polish, but I truly, truly love this one. I think it may even be my favourite from this collection. It’s classy and subtle and as with every other Morgan Taylor nail polish I’ve tried, it paints on perfectly and lasts really well.

This post marks the end of an era for me. Future posts – for a while at least – will showcase my new nail shape. No longer do I have square nails; they are now almond shaped. So look out for those and let me know what you think.

Morgan Taylor Perfect Landing | Sweetheart Squadron Collection

Here’s another polish from the Sweetheart Squadron collection. This is Morgan Taylor Perfect Landing. It’s a coral creme. It’s darker than Up In The Air-Heart, but has the same sort of tone. I think they’d look good gradiented together.

This is another fabulous colour. It’s quite muted and understated for a coral, but I think that really gives it some class.

I have absolutely adored this collection. And it has really elevated Morgan Taylor polishes for me. This, like the others, painted on perfectly, dried quickly and lasted really well. Morgan Taylor polishes are very good quality. I would put them on a par with OPI. Actually, no, I would place them above OPI as OPI are often too runny and pool in the cuticles.
