Blue Trees | Christmas Challenge 2013 Day 2: Winter Nature

I am a bit gutted about today’s prompt for the Crumpet’s Nail Tarts Christmas Winter Challenge.

You see it calls for a winter nature scene, and I have the perfect stamping plate for it. But I don’t really have it – not yet, anyway. There’s a beautiful image in the Bundle Monster Create Your Own set, on plate BM-407. It has perfect, wintry-looking trees on it and I wanted to stamp it in brown over a white textured glitter polish. But I can’t. I bought the set when it came out, and my parents said they’d buy it for me for Christmas, so I gave it to my Mum to wrap up. I am so disappointed that I can’t do the manicure I want to for this prompt.

So instead, I searched online for some inspiration and came across a watercolour painting of some lovely looking trees, entitled True Blue, painted by a Canadian artist called Angela Vandenbogaard. I thought they looked quite wintry, so decided to recreate them on my nails.

I used Barry M Blackberry for the tree trunk, then four Barry M polishes for the dotted foliage: Blackberry, Blueberry, Blue Grape and Turquoise.

I have nowhere near the same skill as the original artist, and I’ve made my tree trunks go too far up within the foliage, but I do like these. I couldn’t get my camera to capture them well though. My photo makes them look more blurry and less defined than they are in real life.

These nails are absolutely gorgeous. What a work of art! I’ve just pinned this – I would love to try to recreate these trees but I don’t think they’d come out as well as yours did 😉

They really weren’t very hard to do. I did the tree trunks with a tiny nail art brush, and I thinned down my polish a bit. They just took a bit of bravery. But the dots were so simple. Give it a go!
