33DC Day 11: 3D

Anticipating this day of the Crumpet’s Nail Tarts 33 Day Challenge, I’ve been buying all sorts of nail charms and studs as I’ve come across them. But surprisingly in the end, I chose to go with some adornments that I’ve had for some while.

I used silver holographic sequin discs that I got many months ago, but which I hadn’t used before. They’re flat so I’d mainly anticipated using them down the centre of my nails, where they could sit snugly against the nail. However, I’ve always thought they might be great for a mermaid nails look.

I could have overlapped them like fish scales – one centred and placed above the two below – but I tried this on a nail wheel and they were quite bulky. So in the end I just overlapped them slightly one over the other in one direction.

I used a slow drying top coat – W7 Diamond Top Coat – so they were only loosely stuck by the time I’d finished. I then liberally applied more of the same top coat and employed some patience in waiting for them to dry. Finally they did dry and they were pretty rock solid. If I’d have caught them in anything, I’m sure they would have some off. But they stood up to some light duty use for half a day before I decided to take them off and move onto the next 33 day challenge manicure.

I teamed the accent nail with a lovely mermaid combination: Sinful Colors Nail Junkie over a base of Sinful Colors Aqua.

Nail Junkie is a teal base with small blue and gold glitters, and small and micro glitters that shift between teal and pale green. It looked lovely with just one coat of the glitter, but even better with two.

Day 11: 3D – mermaid nails using Sinful Colors Aqua, Sinful Colors Nail Junkie, Barry M Foil Effects Silver and silver holographic sequin discs

Although you can’t see the sparkle (my camera set-up is not inclined to capture glittery-ness), you can at least see the rainbow of colours of these holographic sequins. They certainly were very blingy in real life.

On Friday it’s a “pattern in your home”. I have something in mind, but it needs free-handing, so it may not make it to the blog unless I do it justice! [EDIT: I managed it and am really proud of my efforts – watch this space!]

Squeaky Q

Using the sequins like this is so clever! it looks great paired with the aqua too 🙂

Thanks. I loved Nail Junkie when I bought it, but hadn’t used it. I’m loving this challenge for making me do stuff I wouldn’t normally do and also to dip into the untried stash.

I have to give it to you for keeping them on half a day. The feeling of them would have driven me batty. They look fantastic though.

Claire Kerr

They felt OK, but I am usually a picker, so they wouldn’t have stayed on very long anyway!

I love this! Something I might actually wear. 🙂
