Swirl Water Marble featuring Nella Milano Lady Lavender

Every week, I showcase a Nella Milano polish that is on offer at half price on the Nella Milano website. Instead of a plain swatch this week though, I thought I’d do some nail art. So I have some swirl water marble nails to go with Nella Milano Lady Lavender.

Lady Lavender is a delicate pinky lilac. I painted three thin coats to achieve the coverage I wanted. You could probably do two thick coats, but I think thin coats give a more even and smooth overall look.

My recent water marbles have all been stripey designs, and I fancied trying something different. I tried a swirl pattern, having seen one on a Hello Giggles post. The nails of the day posts on Hello Giggles are curated by Sarah of Chalkboard Nails and she always chooses great designs to be featured. This particular one is a swirl or vortex water marble, created by Arlett (@lfcmaus).

I used Lady Lavender plus three other complementary Nella Milano colours: Vintage Violet, a medium purple/mauve; Madame Pompadour, a mid dusky blue; and Chantilly Cream, a white.

The polishes marbled wonderfully, spreading well in the water. Even though these polishes always dry beautifully and speedily on the nail, they stayed very pliable in the water for the time needed to marble them.

I don’t think I’ve used quite the same technique as Arlett. Hers is quite an even swirl, whereas mine is more jagged. The way I created the pattern was to firstly take four strokes out from the centre to the edges, and then take four into the middle in between those. Then, starting near to the centre, I spiralled outwards through the polish to create the swirl pattern.

It’s a shame that I didn’t get identical patterns on both nails. I didn’t have as much white on the ring nail, and I also didn’t manage to dunk my nail centrally, so the centre of the vortex isn’t in the centre of my nail. But I do love the effect and will definitely do this pattern again.

Lady Lavender is this week’s specially priced polish. It’s half price at £4.47. And you can get an extra 20% off this or any other Nella Milano polish with the code Kerrspecial.
