Stamped Pink, Orange and Red Gradient: Bright & Happy (52 Week Challenge)

I’ve gone for the bright and happy prompt for this week’s 52 Week Pick n Mix Challenge and have a stamped pink, orange and red gradient.

The colours are certainly bright and happy, and the stamping image also seemed cheery to me.

I created the gradient with Nella Milano polishes: Blushing Bloom (pink), Chilli Blaze (orange) and The Rubinator (red). They blended nicely, and I realise that my new-ish makeup sponges that I have been using recently are no good. For this manicure, I picked up an older sponge and it worked so much better. Recently the sponges have been disintegrating a little on me, leaving tiny specks of sponge on the nail. I need to remember where I bought my old ones and get some more.

I stamped using Born Pretty Store stamping polish in White and Born Pretty Store stamping plate BP-L009. This plate is one of the larger, rectangular ones, and has an assortment of full nail abstract and geometric patterns, plus some small, individual tribal patterns. It currently costs $3.99, with free worldwide delivery.

I must work on creating my challenge manicures a bit further in advance, as I’m only just making it each week. We have a whole week to post for this challenge, and from the outset I chose to post on the last day, which doesn’t give much leeway when I’m pushed for time.

Roses: Lilac and Teal (52 Week Challenge)

I’m late with last week’s 52 Week Pick n Mix Challenge. The prompts were lilac and teal or pastels. I was already wearing Bundle Monster Voodoo Lounge with some stamping. I removed the stamping and added some roses in lilac and teal.

It’s not my favourite manicure ever.  I did it quite quickly and the roses are quite basic. I know messy can sometimes look good for roses, but this looks a bit amateurish to me. I’m not particularly happy with them, but I didn’t want to miss out on doing any of the 52 week challenges.

The roses have been added using a dotting tool and all Barry M polishes. The base colour I used was Prickly Pear. It’s been covered up in most of them, but you can see it there in some. It’s a more blue/grey toned lilac than the base colour.

I added highlights to the roses using Barry M Plum and Barry M Rose Hip, and the leaves are done with Barry M Make Me Teal (which is from the new Sunset range; I’ve not worn it yet though) and Barry M Greenberry.

Nella Milano Blushing Bloom

I have another swatch of a Nella Milano nail polish today. This is Blushing Bloom, a bright hot pink. It comes from the Bramble collection, a collection of three complementary, but quite different colours.

It went on very easily, although was slightly more liquid than other Nella Milano polishes I’ve tried.

It was perfect in two coats. I can’t quite get over how shiny these polishes are without top coat, but even so, I used top coat so that it would last better.

On the Nella Milano website, you can get 20% off all polish if you use the code Kerrspecial . Blushing Bloom is on special promotion at the moment, for half price. So that’s £4.47, or even less with the additional 20% discount offer.

That’s all for today. It’s short and sweet because I am very pushed for time due to work pressures. I’m a self-employed marketing consultant, and my work is rarely consistent, so sometimes I’m very busy; others not. This is one of the very hectic times. I still haven’t even posted my 52 Week Pick ‘N Mix Challenge for last week, and I haven’t even thought about what I might do for tomorrow’s Wiki’d Nails challenge. Hopefully, I’ll have some more time soon.

Bundle Monster Voodoo Lounge with white floral stamping using BM-XL07

I am wearing another Bundle Monster gel polish today. This is my favourite from the Sands of Aruba collection, a light purple (or dark lilac) called Voodoo Lounge.

I painted three coats. I think I could have left it at two coats, but I could see a tiny bit of light coming through when I held my hands up to the light. It was probably down to my patchy application, but I added the third coat anyway.

I added some stamping using Bundle Monster BM-XL07 and a white Born Pretty Store stamping polish that I received free with a recent order of stamping plates. I’m loving the Bundle Monster XL plates; so many great images at the right size for my nails.

I do love stamping over gel.  If you get it wrong, you can just remove it and re-stamp. I had to re-do my middle nail on this manicure.

This roses image is very pretty. I’m not sure I’ve noticed it before in my collection – and I have most of the Bundle Monster plates. I must look it up.

Here’s a couple of photos of Voodoo Lounge swatched on its own, before I added the stamping.

Some of the photos have come out lighter than the polish really is. The closest match is the one above, the plain swatch with my nails in a straight line.

This stamping plate is BM-XL07, the Green Thumb plate, and costs $3.99 (or you can buy it as part of a set of 10 plates for $29.99). The gel polish can be bought singly for $4.99 (or you can get the whole Sands of Aruba 6 bottle collection for $28.99).

For this manicure I’ve used:
  • Colour: three coats of Bundle Monster Voodoo Lounge (gel)
  • Gel top coat: W7 2 in 1 top coat / base coat (gel polish)
  • Stamping polish: Born Pretty Store White Stamping Polish
  • Stamping plate: Bundle Monster BM-XL07
  • Final top coat: Glisten & Glow HK Girl

Orange and Red Celtic Pattern: Tattoo: Wiki’d Nails

Welcome to the first of a new challenge, called the Wiki’d Nails challenge. This is a ten-week challenge, where we get our inspiration from a Wikipedia article. The first article this week is tattoos and I’ve done an orange and red Celtic pattern as a loose interpretation of a popular tattoo design.

I’m not into tattoos myself, so I’m hardly an expert, but I’ve seen similar designs to the one I’ve stamped used as a band around the upper arm. I’m not entirely sure that the image I’ve used is Celtic, but it’s reminiscent of it to me.

The base is yesterday’s Nella Milano Chilli Blaze, and I’ve stamped over it with Mundo de Uñas Red (9) and using an image from Bundle Monster BM12.

I don’t particularly like it, and it’s already off my nails. But I’m easing myself into this challenge gently; some of the prompts look very hard!

If you’d like to join in the challenge, drop Charlie of Pocket Money Polishes a message on her Facebook page and she’ll give you all the info.
