Black With Gradient Pigment Stamping using Bundle Monster Star Dust Pigments

I don’t really know how to describe this post. This design doesn’t have an obvious name. So it’s a black with gradient pigment stamping design using Bundle Monster Star Dust pigments!

I’ve used these fantastic Star Dust Pigments to create the base of this design. These are sparkly, duochromatic pigments that come in small pots.

I started with two coats of Bundle Monster Cocktail Dress, a gel polish. This should be completely dry and hard after curing as it’s a one-step polish. But with this – and other one-step gels I’ve used – I’m often left with a very slightly tacky layer. It’s never as sticky as the residue from a normal gel polish – and it is easily dissipated with cuticle oil – but in this case, it was a tackiness that I wanted. It was just enough to add the pigments to.

I pressed the Bundle Monster Star Dust Pigments into the slightly sticky layer of the gel polish using a small brush. There are four colours with this set:

  • Andromeda – purple to pink
  • Supernova – blue to purple
  • Nebula – green to teal
  • Milky Way – gold to green

I created a gradient in the order above, so purple at the cuticles, then blue, then green, and finally gold at the tips. It was simple to just press the pigments into the gel polish and blend them a little. They don’t gradient like polish would, but I was going to stamp over it, so it didn’t matter. I sealed it with a clear gel top coat.

You can see the gradient in the photo below. If you look down the centre of the nail, that’s the colours I used. The colours at the sides show differently because of the bend in the nail. The duochrome really enhances the effect of these pigments.

Then I stamped with Konad Black over the top, using an image from CICI & SISI 03.

These Bundle Monster Star Dust Pigments cost $10.99 and are fab. I think they would be awesome for a galaxy manicure (as the names imply). If you don’t use gel polish, they can also be used with regular nail polish.  For my first attempt, I used them over a black polish that I had top coated. It worked perfectly on one nail, but with the second nail I left it a little too long and the quick dry top coat had dried too much. So I took it off. But I am confident it can be done OK. It might be best done straight on to the coloured nail polish, before it’s completely dry and when it’s still tacky.

For this manicure I’ve used:
  • Base: two coats of Bundle Monster Cocktail Dress one-step gel polish
  • Gradient: a gradient using Bundle Monster pigments in Andromeda, Supernova, Nebula and Milky Way
  • Intermediate top coat: W7 2 in 1 top coat / base coat (gel polish)
  • Stamping polish: Konad Black
  • Stamping plate: CICI & SISI 03
  • Final top coat: Glisten & Glow HK Girl
  • Plain black nails: two coats of W7 Black, with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat
