Black and White Houndstooth Tips (52 Week Challenge)

I’ve just used one of the prompts for this week’s 52 Week Pick n Mix Challenge. I’ve gone with the houndstooth prompt and have stuck with a classic colour combination of black and white.

My inspiration comes from an image in the MoYou Nails brochure – in fact, it’s not so much inspiration as wholesale recreation. But these are done with water decals, not stamping.

After creating white tips on my nails, and painting an accent nail completely white, I applied some houndstooth water decals from Born Pretty Store.

The decals come in strips that are 1, 2 and 3 houndsteeth deep. That was fine for the tips; they were sized exactly right for a double houndstooth. But for the accent nail, I had to use 3 separate pieces. I used two 3 deep patterns, and then still had the smallest amount of white nail showing at the bottom, so added a piece of decal with the single pattern.

The decals were very easy to apply. While they were still wet they slid easily on the nail, so could be aligned with minimal fuss. You can buy them from Born Pretty Store for £1.99, with free delivery. You can get a further 10% off any full price purchases from Born Pretty Store using code: ZLS91.

What a brilliant way to use water decals…just on the tips! Also, if you hadn’t written about how you accomplished the accent nail, I would have sworn that was all one decal. You did an amazing job lining up the strips. All in all, a very striking and classy look. Delphi
