33DC Day 7: Art with your oldest untried
Today in the the Crumpet’s Nail Tarts 33 Day Challenge, it’s all about doing some nail art with your oldest untried polish. I have four polishes that I bought on the same day – back in September 2012 – that are still unused. I bought them all in The Original Factory Shop. I thought they were a bargain at £2 each, but it turns out that’s what they cost anyway!
The four polishes are: Sinful Colors Aqua and All Mighty, NYC West Village and W7 Mosaic. The two Sinful Colors polishes are both very similar shimmery aqua blues, and I wasn’t sure what to do with them. So I cheated a little and chose two untrieds: West Village and Mosaic.
West Village is a perfect navy with the merest hint of a silver shimmer that can really only be seen very close up. I’m a little annoyed I left it so long to try it as it is a perfect polish and a perfect colour for me.
Mosaic is one of three W7 polishes that emulate the Nails Inc. “Sprinkles” collection. I have them all, and have used Salt n’ Pepper, but not Lava Flow as yet.
I wasn’t feeling all that artistic, so I took my colour inspiration from the glitter of Mosaic – gold and purple – and used the same colour round glequins as an accent over West Village. Yes, those really are purple glequins, but because they are iridescent, they just look bluey-green. As do all the glequins, apart from the gold, silver and black ones! I suppose they sort of match the base colour of Mosaic at least.
It was really difficult to photograph this manicure, because the glequins are all sat at very slightly different angles. to get the best shot, with the largest number of glequins showing, I had to hold my hand a little farther away from the camera than usual. As a result, I couldn’t get it to focus so clearly on all the nails. Hence it’s a little out of focus in places.
Next up is chevrons. I’m OK with that and I have an idea already. But Indian? Who knows!
- Base colour: two coats of NYC West Village
- Index finger: three coats of W7 Mosaic
- Ring finger accent: purple and gold round glequins
- Top coat:Glisten & Glow HK Girl (two coats over the glitter and the glequins)
