Fan brush stripes: Sally Hansen Ion, Revlon Plum Night, George Lavender Fantasy

Despite some great feedback on a Facebook group I belong to, I really didn’t like Sally Hansen Ion on me – it was just too light.

But it was perfect as a base for some nail art. I wasn’t sure what to do, so thought I’d try something completely new to me – using a fan brush. I’ve seen some tutorials recently, and it didn’t look too hard, so I gave it a go.

I used Revlon Plum Night, a dark purple, and George Lavender Fantasy, a medium purple.

It was surprisingly quick and easy to do. My only trouble was with my non-dominant hand. The lines on my right hand have come out a bit thicker, and look a touch clumsy. I guess I’m just heavier-handed using my left hand.

I don’t think I’ve done it brilliantly well, but I like the effect though – it’s kind of a childish scribble.

For this manicure I’ve used:

  • Base: three coats of Sally Hansen Ion
  • Intermediate top coat: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip
