33DC Day 29: Your favourite pattern

Today in the Crumpet’s Nail Tarts 33 Day Challenge we have to choose our favourite pattern. My favourite pattern – and technique, I guess too – is a gradient.

Gradients are really easy to do, and can sometimes be very striking if you choose some good colours.

I wanted to do a purple and blue gradient and chose some unused polishes from my stash. I’ve only used creme and textured polishes before to gradient with, so I wasn’t quite sure how these metallic/shimmery polishes might work.

I thought from the bottle that one of the polishes, Collection 2000 Minx, was purple, but on the nail it turned out to be quite pink, due to the pink shimmer in it. The other polish is also from Collection 2000, and is called Vogue. It’s a metallic cobalt blue.

I’m not sure that the photo does these justice. They are very metallic-looking and shiny, and the colour clash of pink and blue seems to get them noticed; I’ve had lots of lovely comments about them.

I thought about jazzing the gradient up a little by adding some glitter or stamping over it, but then I guess it wouldn’t still be my favourite pattern, so I left it as it was.

I can’t believe we’re nearly at the end of this challenge. Just four more manicures to go.

For this manicure I’ve used:
  • Colours: Collection 2000 Minx and Collection 2000 Vogue, applied using a sponge
  • Top coat: Glisten & Glow HK Girl
