Tartan Nails: Twin Post with Em’s Little Corner

A while ago, I got chatting with Emma from Em’s Little Corner and we decided to do a twin post based on the theme of tartan (plaid) nails.

I did some blue tartan nails last year for a challenge and I wasn’t very happy that I didn’t manage to finish them, so this was a great opportunity to try them again.

Having said that, I’m still not entirely satisfied with these. They look fantastic at arm’s length, but perfectionist me isn’t happy that close-up photos show the messy white striper lines. I definitely need more practice with a striper brush.

I used Barry M Plum (mine is incorrectly labelled Blackberry, as many bottles were at first) for the dark purple, and for the lilac I used a recent prize win – ironically won in Emma’s recent competition giveaway – OPI Do You Lilac It? I painted all the detail with a striping brush, except for the purple squares where the lilac lines cross, which I did with a cut down detailing brush.

It was just as difficult as my last attempt, but I’m pleased I finished these. Do go and check out Emma’s tartan nails.

I bought a white striper today, wish I had had it a day or two sooner! I love these, they turned out so well!

I’m just not good with stripers – give me tape any time. Must practice.
