Diagonal Stripes: Three Blues (52 Week Challenge)

For this week in the 52 Week Pick n Mix Challenge the choices are domestic animals or three shades of blue. I didn’t fancy putting cats or dogs or rabbits on my nails, so went with the three blues prompt.

I’ve done some diagonal stripes. Diagonal isn’t a very common thing for me. I’ve created dozens of striped manicures, but only a handful of diagonally striped ones before.

For the base, I’ve used Barry M Huckleburry (their spelling on the bottle) / Huckleberry (the spelling on the website). Then the medium blue is Essie Mezmerised. I love this colour. I don’t have anything quite like it and it’s a gorgeous mi-toned blue. Plus, this is just one coat. I did layer it over Barry M Huckleberry, which I had already put on all four nails, but since that’s practically white, then this is a one-coater in my estimation. And the third blue is Orly In The Navy; another gorgeous colour. I do love a good navy.

I really love these nails. I took my time with them and was really careful with the clean-up, and I am so pleased with my lines. I am, however, very disappointed in the top coat. It’s a brand new bottle of Glisten & Glow HK Girl, and it’s left the Essie polish all bumpy, almost grainy in texture. I don’t understand why that’s happened; nor why it’s happened just to the Essie. You can see it particularly well on the index finger nail, but it was like this on the others too.
