33DC Day 1: Dots
Today is the first day of the Crumpet’s Nail Tarts 33 Day Challenge. I’ll be posting my challenge manicures three times a week on a Monday, Wednesday and a Friday for the next eleven weeks. I’ve not taken part in a challenge before, so I’m rather excited. But I’m also a bit daunted by some of the prompts. Goodness only knows how I’ll manage tribal nails or Mexican nails, for example!
This is only the third time I’ve done a dotticure. I have always been really worried that I will get it wrong. I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I want my dots to be exactly round and exactly the same size. The fear of not being able to get that right is what has always put me off doing dots. I just need to learn to relax about it though, and not be so hard on myself. These aren’t perfect, but they look fantastic from a distance in real life; it’s just the zoom of the camera makes me cringe at what I see.
I copied this manicure from a photo I found on Flickr. I had pinned it and have been wanting to recreate it for some time. This challenge gave me the nudge to finally do so.
I used all different brands of polish for the dots:
- Yellow: MUA U&I
- Blue: Barry M Blackberry
- Light pink: Collection 2000 Candy Floss
- Mint green: George Smarty Pants
- Dark pink: Model’s Own Pink Blush
These are the challenges for the next 32 days. I know lots of bloggers plan ahead and some have already completed a lot of the manicures. I’m quite organised, so I’ve listed them all in a spreadsheet, and have detailed some ideas for some of them, but I’ve not had the time to do any of them in advance, so this challenge could be hard work.
- Base colour: two coats of China Glaze White On White
- Dots: MUA U&I, Barry M Blackberry, Collection 2000 Candy Floss, George Smarty Pants, Model’s Own Pink Blush
- Top coat: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip
Have a look at what everyone else doing the challenge has come up with:

Wow! this is so perfect! the colours and the precision! it looks like nail wraps, but 1000 times better.
I’m so glad I’m doing this challenge because I found your blog <3
Oh, thank you – what a lovely comment. I’ve found some new blogs to follow too, including yours.
wow, this is stunning. It looks so perfect and love the colour combo’s! 🙂
Thanks 🙂 I loved it too when I saw it and really wanted to try to recreate it, but didn’t think I’d ever get up the nerve to try it. I’m grateful for this challenge in that respect. I really wouldn’t have done this had it not been for this challenge.
very nice i luve the color combo u chose for the mani ..xx
Thanks Dimpal, but I didn’t choose the colours. I copied the colours from someone else’e manicure, and they had in turn copied it from a clothing tag 😉
very beautiful dots!
kiss
Stop cringing!!! These are Fab Claire!!! Like I want them on my nails right now lol
Thank you 🙂
And I’m blushing 😳
I honestly thought these were nail wraps – stunning, and a great colour combo:)
Wow – thank you. I’m blown away that quite a few think they look like wraps. (Must learn not to criticise myself so harshly!)
I love the color combo you used! beautiful dotticure!
Oo, I like it! I’ve got to try this!
It’s easy enough – just takes quite a bit of patience. I was also quite anal about keeping to the order – i.e. pink and blue dots, then yellow and green dots, or whatever. I was worried that if I didn’t stick to the order, I’d end up with dots of the same colour next to each other.
Your dots are so perfectly placed! I wish I had your skills!
Ah, thanks, but it’s not really skill, just patience.
everything you do is so perfect Claire! so jealous x
I wish! Just take a look at Tribal, and Indian!!
A clothing tag? How did you find out that’s where your inspiration got her inspiration? Just curious. 🙂 I was wondering what white polish you used? Like many of the others who left comments, I looked at this, thought, “Perfection. These are wraps.” Really, really, really cool to find out they weren’t. You may have felt as though you were working outside of your comfort zone but the result is light, airy, colorful, fun and looks as though it was easy-peasy for you to do. Yay!
Hi Delphi – you can see in her picture that I linked to that she’s holding a clothing label 😉
The white is two coats of China Glaze White On White.
Fantastic color choices and perfect dots, love your mani!
Thank you – this is one of my favourite manicures I’ve ever done.
