Magic Goose Reindeer Dance

I was wearing Nails Inc Big Apple Red, which came as a freebie in December 2013’s Glamour magazine. And, as is usual for me with Nails Inc polishes, it had chipped. I was going to remove it, but instead decided to touch up the chips and add a glitter topper.

This is Magic Goose Reindeer Dance. It was a prize win that I received along with many other UK indies. I was going to show all the polishes I won in a post, but hadn’t quite got around to it, and then a fair few of the brands closed down anyway, so I didn’t post it in the end.

Reindeer Dance is a mix of different sized glitters in red, black silver and pink. Because I’ve worn it over red, you can’t see the red glitters very well though.

I really like the bottle and brush. The polish itself too is gorgeous, although the formula was a little thick, which I often find with UK indies (I reckon you UK indie makers are all using the same base manufacturer!)

Sadly, Magic Goose has also recently closed, although Emma has stated that she’s only closing temporarily, so I do hope she’ll be back.

FingerFood’s Theme Buffet: Monochrome: Black and White Floral Stamping

And so the FingerFood’s Theme Buffet challenge rolls onto part two. And we have some more themes to pick from. These were all suggested by members of the Facebook group (I was too slow and didn’t get round to posting any ideas).

This week is actually either the end of the last set of challenges, and a Mother’s Day theme, or the first of a new set, and monochrome. Some people have chosen to combine the two,but I’ve gone for monochrome, which was suggested by Sarah, Manda and Myristine.

Strictly I’ve gone for achromatic, which means no colour at all, i.e. black and white. But I took Wikipedia literally when it said:

For an image, the term monochrome is usually taken to mean the same as black and white

So, I’ve chosen some black stamping over white. I used MoYou London Pro XL 14 for the plate, and stamped a floral pattern. It didn’t come out so well and had some bald patches, so I touched them up with a teeny tiny brush and some black acrylic paint. I still managed to miss a few spots though.

I do like this look. I was planning to keep it on for a few days, but I might now replace it with the lovely new Chanel Provocation I received for Mother’s Day from my son.

Chanel Coup de Coeur

I really love Chanel polishes. They’re very much a luxury at £18 each, but the formula is always perfect and anyway, I tend to receive them as gifts.

Coup De Coeur is no exception. My husband bought it for me on my birthday back in February. We were staying away for a few days, and I spotted it while we were out shopping in Cambridge. I didn’t even know it had been released.

Coup De Coeur comes from the Spring 2014 collection, Variation. It’s the only polish in the collection. It’s fairly hard to describe the colour. It’s a lovely berry shade, so perhaps mulberry or cranberry would be right. It’s a bit like Chanel April, but deeper and more pink. Chanel calls it a plum.

I thought coup de coeur meant love at first sight, but I’m wrong. Instead, it means something a little less strong than that, but still pertains to something that you really love. Perhaps in English we’d say captured my heart. And that’s good enough for me; that’s certainly how I feel about this beautiful shade.

Spring Pastels: Stamping Decal Using L’Oréal Les Blancs Collection: March Polish Party

I’ve been wanting to do a stamping decal for a while now. I have used a similar method to more easily put a hand drawn image on my nails, which is how I did my Roobarb & Custard nails. But I’ve not done it with a stamp yet.

I had been searching through my stamping plates to find a suitable image that could be coloured in and then I saw a beautiful manicure by Reinovate nails. She has used a honeycomb image from a Mo You London plate, but I knew I had a similar image on the newest Bundle Monster plates (the create your own 2013 set). It’s a perfect image for filling in for this method.

I’ve used the new L’Oréal Spring 2014 collection – Les Blancs – to fill in the sections. The collection comprises four gorgeous, very pale pastels, in yellow (Lemon Meringue), peach (Peach Negligée), lilac (Nouvelle Vague) and green (Pistachio Dragée).  It was quite time consuming and fiddly to paint all the hexagons, and the pastels probably aren’t the best polishes to use for this as they are very pale, making it quite difficult to make out the shapes.

Anyway, it’s all pastelly (no, it’s not a word … I made it up) and fresh, so I thought it was apt for this month’s Polish Party manicure, the theme for which is spring.

The base for the decal is 2 coats of Barry M Nude over 2 coats of Sinful Colors Snow Me White. I tried this at first using just white and it didn’t work at all well, but I’d only done it on one finger, so was able to rectify my mistake quite easily.

After I’d painted the second coat of Nude, I waited for it to dry but not harden, then placed the decal on. I pressed it down firmly, almost stretching it to the nail in places. I managed to rip the one for the little finger! Then I trimmed off the excess and used acetone and a clean up brush to complete the job.

GOT Polish Challenge: Yellow: Polka Dots

For the Golden Oldie Thursday (GOT) Polish Challenge this week, the theme is yellow or peach. I don’t have many of either polish, so it was fairly easy to choose one to use.

I left this manicure very much to the last minute, without much idea of what I was going to do. I had chosen Ciaté Big Yellow Taxi, and after painting that on all my nails, I just went with a simple white polka dot.

As with most yellows, Big Yellow Taxi is streaky and difficult to apply. This took four coats, and it went on best when I used a light touch. It’s a lovely bright yellow. While I’ve never been to New York, I’m not so sure it’s warm or dark enough for the famous cabs it’s named after.
