33DC Day 6: Textured

I really enjoyed this manicure that I created for day 6 of the Crumpet’s Nail Tarts 33 Day Challenge. Finally, I am wearing a manicure on all of my nails – not just four – and I will be keeping it on for several days, rather than swiftly removing it after deciding I don’t like it.

I’ve used some textured polishes from Seventeen and from Barry M. The Barry M polishes are very new, and I only bought them last week, but the Seventeen polish (and the rest of the textured range it comes from) has been available for at least a month, if not a little longer.

Barry M Duchess is the pinky, rose-gold coloured polish on my index and little fingers, and Countess is the burgundy and copper colour on my middle finger. I used Seventeen Celestial Pearl as the base for the gradient and on my thumbnails.

For the gradient, I firstly added some tape. It’s not striping tape as my roll is not very sticky at the best of times, let alone when it’s used over a textured base. Instead, I cut down some straight French tips guides so that they were about the width of striping tape, and applied it to the ring fingers in a diagonal stripes pattern. I added Countess and Duchess as a gradient using a sponge and removed the tape.

The three colours go beautifully together when they’re plain. But I have a bit of a problem with the gradient. I think it’s because each of the polishes has a different coloured glitter base: Duchess is a silver glitter, Countess is a copper glitter and Celestial Pearl is a gold glitter. The silver glitter of Duchess therefore doesn’t blend in so well with the copper glitter, and it’s also harder to see it against the white of the Celestial Pearl base.

Never mind. It’s not perfect, but it is lovely all the same.

I’m pleased that I now have the weekend to think about or prepare the next three manicures. Day 7 and 8 look OK to me, but I have no idea what I might do for Indian nails.

For this manicure I’ve used:
  • Base colour: two coats of Barry M Duchess or Barry M Countess
  • Accent finger: two coats of Seventeen Celestial Pearl, then a sponged gradient using tape and Barry M Duchess and Barry M Countess
  • Top coat: none

Have a look at what everyone else doing the challenge has come up with:

I thought it would be my favourite, and it’s fantastic, but I do also really like Duchess. Look out for Seventeen Charm Bracelet too – it’s a champagne-gold textured polish – also fab.
