Red, black and white splatter: May Polish Party

The prompt for this month’s Polish Party is “splatter”. I do love doing splatter nails; they’re such fun to do – albeit very messy.

I was already wearing a plain red manicure – Rimmel Double Decker Red – and thought it would be a good base for some black and white splatter.

I used my favourite black and white: W7 Black and Sinful Colors Snow Me White. Both bottles are near the end, and the thickened polish was making it difficult to get much splattering going on. I completely ruined my ring finger with a large blob of black, so took it off and re-did it. This time around, I used new bottles of each polish, and they actually didn’t seem to work as well as the others. You can see in the photo that the ring finger has fewer tiny splatters, and looks “cleaner” than the others. I was surprised at that, because I thought the thicker polish in the older bottles was causing me problems. Obviously not.

For this manicure I’ve used:
  • Base colour: three coats of Rimmel Double Decker Red
  • Splatter: W7 Black and Sinful Colors Snow Me White
  • Top coat: Glisten & Glow HK Girl

These look great! I love the colour combination! I never realised that using thicker nail polish would work better than new nail polish! 🙂

I’m not convinced one way or the other. The thick polish *did* give lots of tiny splats, but also gave the odd large blob. The thin polish seems to have created longer splats and lines though.
