The Nail Arcade Rainbow Chess: September Polish Party

The Polish Party is one year old this month, so the theme is birthday / party / celebrations nails.

I tried to copy the Polish Party logo and had a stab using a few different methods for painting multi-coloured streamers onto my nails. It failed. Abysmally.

So next, I attempted to paint some cupcakes. It also failed. Even more abysmally. The cupcakes looked like a five year-old had painted them and the nails didn’t even get photographed.

Finally, rather than trying to create some party nails, I instead put the party on my nails. I used The Nail Arcade’s Rainbow Chess, a clear base jam-packed with square, multi-coloured, matte glitters. It certainly looks like a party in miniature, with tons of rainbow-coloured confetti.

Rachel of the The Nail Arcade has an Etsy shop and a Facebook page. Rainbow Chess was a limited edition, and as the shop owner Rachel is now at university, she doesn’t sell polish at the moment, just lots of nail art bits and bobs.

Happy birthday Polish Party! If you want to join in next month, please join at the Facebook page.

Purple shimmer and creme with striping tape: W is for: Wild With Passion and Wine And Dine

It’s letter W this week in the A to Z series challenge. I couldn’t decide between two purple Ws, so I used them both to create a half and half manicure with some striping tape inthe middle.

The cream on the top half of the nail is NYC Wild With Passion. It’s a red-toned purple, with a mildly jelly-like formula until a second coat is applied. After I’d painted the whole nail, I roughly added on a coat of H&M Wine And Dine on the bottom half of my nails. Then I covered the join with some purple striping tape, sent to me by Tara from Tara’s Talons.

The two colours are pretty similar, so the difference between the shimmer and the creme isn’t so obvious, except in close up.

V is for: Vixen: pink with flower accent

For V this week in the A to Z series challenge I’ve used Vixen by Collection 2000. It’s a striking pink with a fuchsia shimmer.

I paired it with the pale pink of No Excuses by George and created a dotted flowers accent nail.

You may notice that my nails are really short. This is the shortest they have been in a very long time. Looking back over old photos, I think this is the shortest they have been since I started blogging. They’re more manageable this length, but I prefer them longer, certainly in photos they look nicer longer. It’s my index finger nail that is causing the problems. It often breaks at the corner (on the left as you look at the photo) and it’s particularly flaky and peeling also at the moment, meaning any initial damage at a corner will often spread across the nail. So, I’ve taken them all down in length – the index nail is still comparatively shorter – I will just have to be patient while they grow again.

Red, black and white: stripes and glitter

A while back, someone was asking in a Facebook group what to do on their nails and I suggested red, black and white stripes. Someone else remarked that they could imagine that on my nails. And I agreed – I guess I’d suggested something that was very “me” – so, I chose to paint it myself.

I started with two coats of Revlon Red, then added my stripes using W7 Black and Sinful Colors Snow Me White. They were mostly done with the aid of Nail Vinyls, but a couple were freehanded.

On the index and little finger nails I added a coat of L’Oréal Confettis.

My index fingernail broke at its eternal weak spot, the outside corner, so I filed it down a little. [I wore this manicure about three weeks ago – the nail was just about regaining some of its length, but yesterday it had an altercation with a veg peeler and so I’ve had to trim all my nails down now – they’re the shortest they’ve been in a very long time 🙁 ] Also, I have a little tip wear on this nail as I wore the red alone for a day. I should have filed it down or repainted the edge before photographing!

U is for: Unicorn Love

It’s letter U this week in the A to Z series challenge. I wanted to add some nail art, but didn’t get time in the end, so it’s just a swatch today from me.

This is Unicorn Love, from Polish Addict Nail Colour. It’s a mint green – verging on a pale blue – with microglitters in yellow, blue, purple, pink, red and salmon.

I painted two coats over a base of two coats of SpaRitual Delight. This made it a bit more green than it is in the bottle, but I’m perfectly happy with that.
