For this week’s 52 Week Pick n Mix Challenge we’re supposed to do fishbraid or a non-glitter topper.
So foils are a topper, right? Sort of. I think I’m stretching the theme here a bit!
I don’t actually have any undies on beneath the foils; I simply applied them straight over my base coat. Thankfully, there aren’t any noticeable gaps, and so I think I got away with it!
The cuticle edge is a bit scrappy in places. I don’t know if there’s a foolproof way to keep that nice and clean looking. You can’t clean off foil glue with acetone before you add the foil; it just all pulls up. So if you know of a way of keeping that neat and uniform – apart from just being able to paint glue in a nice curve in the first place – then let me know.
These aren’t top-coated at this stage. I wasn’t sure how my top coat might ruin them and so I only took photos before then. After this, I added two coats of Picture Polish Revolution – the glitter base – and when that was dry, added my normal top coat. It degraded the shine of the foils very, very slightly, but there was nowhere near the kind of damage you see if you just top coat over foils with normal top coat. The idea is that the Revolution base protects the foils.
I love these foils. they’re so bright and shiny, and really make for statement nails. I bought these foils from eBay. They were inexpensive, but did take a good couple of weeks to arrive as they came from China.
- Foils: gold, red and pink gradient foil
- Top coat (not shown in these photograph): two coats of Picture Polish revolution, then 1 coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri
