Semilac Nude Beige Rose

I’m starting the New Year off gently with a soft colour – just in case any of you still have hangovers! This gel polish is Semilac Nude Beige Rose. It’s a really beautiful, delicate and feminine colour.

I think Semilac are hedging their bets with name. They’ve included three different colours in it!

In fact, I think it’s not really any of these. It’s more lilac than any of those, perhaps with a pinkish hint in some lights. Neither of these photos of mine quite shows that pink side of it, but the photo I’ve used on my Instagram account does a bit more.

Semilac is brand of gel polish. They term it “UV hybrid”, but don’t let that confuse you into thinking it’s part gel and part something else. It’s a lamp-cured gel polish that needs to be removed by soaking in acetone.

Salon owner and former TOWIE star, Amy Childs, is the brand ambassador for the product.

Semilac claims that the polish will last up to three weeks. I never keep my polish on for anything like that length of time, so I can’t vouch for the longevity. I’m someone that likes to change my polish frequently, and my nails grow quickly, so after about two weeks, the gap at the cuticle end would be way too much for me. I suppose, for holidays, then three weeks would be great. You could have your nails done a few days before you go; then be away for two weeks with a perfect manicure; and then not worry about rushing to get them re-done again when you get back.

I’m writing this post nine days after I painted these nails and they’re still going strong. This colour is gorgeous, so that’s one reason why I haven’t taken these off yet. Also, I took the photos five days after painting the manicure, so you can see how well it has lasted.

I used three coats of colour for this. Semilac is purportedly very pigmented and many of the colours require only one coat. However, Nude Beige Rose is a little sheer when painting thin coats, so I needed three to avoid being able to see through my nail. If you have short nails that don’t extend far beyond your finger, or if you’re not as worried about visible nail line as I am, then one or two coats would probably be ample.

Semilac UV Hybrid polishes come in 7ml bottles and cost £8.75 each. You can buy them from the Semilac website, without needing to set up an account.

For this manicure I’ve used:
  • Colour: three coats of Semilac Nude Beige Rose
  • Gel top coat: W7 2 in 1 top coat / base coat (gel polish)

Happy New Year Claire!
This colour is gorgeous and the newish nail shape is also fab, really elegant. I’ve been toying with the idea of doing gel at home and I was wondering if you had any suggestions on what brands to try first.
Thanks!

Hi Lucina,

I haven’t used very many different brands of gel. I have only used: Bundle Monster, Bluesky, N Salon, Gellux, Semilac, GelTouch, Gelish, W7 and Illummi.

You don’t say where you are, but if you’re in the US, then Bundle Monster is easy to get hold of there. If you’re in the UK, then all the others are UK-available brands, and Gelish, well you can get just about everywhere I think.

The GelTouch might be a good start for you. I have the Starter Kit, which you paint over normal polish. Here’s my review of it: http://www.kerruticles.com/2016/08/gel-touch-mini-starter-kit/

Or Illummi is great, because it’s just one coat, with no base or top coat needed: http://www.kerruticles.com/2015/01/illummi-blue-lagoon-one-step-gel-polish/

Some of the others I’ve used: Semilac, W7, Gellux and Gelish have all been great too. W7 even do a starter kit that comes with some polishes and an LED lamp, for about £25, I think. I hear mixed reviews about Bluesky – it’s made in China. And I didn’t like the N Salon polishes – I found them quite thick.

Good luck. I think the key to gel is being absolutely fastidious about cuticle removal before painting, and only doing very thin layers. Also, I’d strongly suggest using the lamp that is designed for the brand that you’re using. I don’t have all the lamps for all my polishes, and I’m probably putting myself at risk of developing an allergy.

This color is so nice! I like it.

Thanks Claire, that’s a lot of great info!
GelTouch sounds great, I have a “medium” collection of normal shades and continuing to use them is definitely a plus!
