Pink and Lilac Ikat | 40 Great Nail Art Ideas

These pink and lilac Ikat design nails are for the 40 Great Nail Art Ideas group. I’m very late in posting these. Firstly, I put off painting them as I had never done an Ikat print before; and secondly, my son has been pretty ill most of the weekend, meaning my nurse-maiding duties had to come before painting my nails.

I’ve never liked Ikat enough to recreate it just because I wanted to. But I really rather like these, so may well do some again. On nails, I’ve only ever seen this sort of design, often with some black outlining and more black in the centres of the Ikat bits. But, having extensively Googled, it appears that there is much more to Ikat than just these offset, jaggedy triangle shapes. My favourite look is a ragged zigzag.

The base for these is Barry M Pink Lemonade. It’s a classy, muted pink that looks almost mannequin-like on my hands. It’s the kind of neutral-coloured polish that you could wear if you didn’t want to draw attention to your nails, but still wanted to wear polish.

Then I added the base of the Ikat shape using a Barry M Nail Art Pen in White. Finally, I added the lilac using a striping brush, using another Barry M polish: Fondant, a pinkish lilac.

Having got to this stage, I was pleased with the look and decided not to add the black that I had originally planned. I thought it would take away some of the delicacy of the colour scheme.

It was all very simple to do and I was very pleasantly surprised with the outcome.

I like the light pastel colors you used in this ikat manicure.

I’ve only ever done ikat once (also for this challenge) and I did the black outline version but this is so much more elegant! I really like your take on it!

Thank you Zara 🙂
